As a wedding photographer and videographer, I’ve had the chance to capture weddings at the Della Terra Mountain Chateau in Estes Park many times, and it’s one of those venues that truly shines in both photos and film. Estes Park is known worldwide for its amazing mountain vibes and the famous Rocky Mountain National Park next door. In fact, one of the amazing things about this wedding venue is that it is literally just a few steps away from the border of the National Park, and if you’ve been there, you’ve most likely taken photos inside the National Park without even realizing this!

My experience working there: 

If you’ve never shot at this venue as a photographer or videographer, beware of the maze-like layout of the Chateau! You can certainly get a little lost if you’re not familiar with the hallways and different rooms between the 3 floors; it’s a very unique floor plan!  I would recommend arriving 30 minutes early to get oriented before the rush of the wedding day begins.  Chances are that you’ll start capturing your day in the Bridal Salon room, located on the lower level, south side of the building.  You can also access the salon from the outside up a staircase near the parking lot.

Be prepared to do a LOT of walking around throughout the day.  The ceremony site is several hundred feet away from the Chateau.  The venue includes a golf cart to help shuttle the wedding couple and any older guests who need assistance over this distance. If you have a cart to help with your gear, this is definitely a wedding venue where you would want to use that: Videographers, yes, we have to bring a lot of equipment.

Overall thoughts:

Della Terra remains one of Colorado’s very best wedding venues in the entire state for many reasons.  It is managed now by the high-volume company Wedgewood Weddings, and the staff is friendly and accommodating.  I always try to communicate closely with the on-site wedding coordinator and let them know if we are on schedule and when I’m ready for the next formal event to begin. Communicating this with the DJ is also extremely important.
